Hi, I've got a machine displying E40. Found a web post elsewhere with some diagnostic instructions on it, these led me to a more specific error code - E42! The problem I have now is how to translate E42 into english!

Some posts indicate a possible door locking mechanism problem, circuit board problem etc.

If I leave the machine 'off' when the door lock is stuck, after around 5-10 minutes, I can open the door again. Presumably some sort of servo mechanism releases after a short period.

Cannot use machine because it checks the door at the start of any program!

Help!

hi e40 on zanussi washers is door open if its showing with doo shut it means the door interlock has failed and needs replacing to do this remove door rubber locking ring pull rubber off just where the lock is you can then put your hand in and hold the lock mech while you undo it(DONT FORGET POWER OFF WHEN WORKING) anymore probs msdapudsey1@msn.com
