just try using the search box at top of the screen pecavvi,you will find a very definitive reply to a question on light circuits from me,old and new wiring,electricity is dangerous,and advice should be given very carefully.and i have no objections to anyone giving advice,its a free forum,just be accurate

i know what you mean,but am an electrician of 37 years exper,the guy wont have a clue what your on about.
try and explain things so they can understand what you say.no point in giving info then passing him on to a website,better to give him the website and say nothing

You have wired the ceiling rose incorrectly - when the lamp lights the switch is actually set to Off - When you put the switch to On (in the mistaken belief you're turning it off) the wiring fault connects live to neutral with no lamp in circuit to act as a load.

The Live wires do NOT connect to the lamp - they just connect to one another - a wire from the switch that may well look like a neutral wire will be switched live to turn the light on and off.
