the adapter may be damaged, you can dell customer service to test, if extend Dell's waranty, you can buy another new replacement adapter for your laptop. http://www.battery-center.net/adapter/dell-ac-adapter.html seems good.

You may have a defective adapter, or a defective laptop.
It apears that your system is new. If that's the case, go back to where you bough it and have it fixed or replaced under the Dell's waranty.
