I let the battery go flat and now cannot use the radio of a Ford Visteon 6000NE s/n M004812. (The CD player works) Someone had written a code - 1746 - on the body and it seems to accept it but doesn't work. I suspect it needs the vehicle I.D. I have the formal V.I.D. from the documentation but that doesn't work. Is there anything more I can do? Thanks in anticipation.

ok so have you checked all the plugs are pushed in at the back and the aerial?
when you check the plugs try the radio then. to see if it an aerial problem hold a screw on the aerial jack(hold) to see if it will tune.

When I took the CD/Radio back out and connected it the display flashed "1746". After I entered that code I got the radio display. It will seek but it never stops. It will respond to the pre-set buttons by stopping at a particular frequency. However, there is no sound. I tried using a piece of wire as a temporary aerial but that didn't work either. Please help.

The serial number is M004812. If I leave power off overnight then hold down "MENU" and scroll down I find "CODE". If I enter "1746" I return to the radio that doesn't work. If I hold down "MENU" again and scroll down I find "VID". If I enter "1746" I get a blank screen except for a flashing cursor on the left hand side. I can enter characters using the volume control. However, the Vehicle I.D. from the paperwork doesn't work. Is there any way to reset it? Many thanks.

where did you get the serial off the radio or out of a book? if its from a book remove it and get the serial off the back of the radio.
if it is off of the radio try code 4580< that for visteon

Yes. I have the booklet for the CD/Radio. Unfortunately, the previous owner didn't record anything in it.
If I enter a different number it starts counting - I gather you have 10 attempts before something worse happens.
