toilet keeps filling even when it has reached the required level .what can I do?

assuming the float ball is good and not split/holed

1 may be able to bend the metal float arm downwards if fitted
2 may be able to adjust the plastic float height screw to restrict water input
3 you may need to isolate water supply and change the ball valve washer as may be split/perished
