I had the same fault and removed the rubber
shroud around the connector to see if the
connection was good to spark plug end and tried for a spark [ holding plug out
against the casing holding with insulated pliers.
spark ok.replaced and tried to start 1st time
no probs.
I then split the shroud with a stanley knife
and refitted it over exposed conx.
and cable tied it together and guess what it
wouldnt start.
removed the rubber again and it started.
Through the rubber away and wrapped
soundly with self amalgamating rubber tape
and its running great.
[ rubber shroud was causing
a short due to poor insulation factor ]
