Which winding hole for the chime? Smith Enfield mantel clock?

We have just inherited a Smith Enfield chiming mantel clock. I love the chimes, but they keep everyone awake at night. I understand it's possible to wind the clock so it keeps time without winding up the chimes - so it ticks but doesn't "boing"! But which hole is which - there are two - one at around the4 8 mark and another around the 4. Which one winds the clock so it keeps time and which one winds the chimes?

As you face the clock, the one on the right runs the time, the one on the left runs the strike. Do not be surprised if the clock begins to stop. If it has a rack and snail strike system it will jam at the 12:30 position each time. This will be because the strike train is not picking up the proper levers to allow the clock to run. You might try putting a cushion between the hammer and gong to silence it.
