How do I get the agitator off of a simpson eziset 550 to unwind it?

I seem to have some panty hose wrapped around the agitator screw in the washing machine. I would like to try to fix it myself. Any helpful free hints?

Take out filter at top of agitator. Look down inside tube and at bottom is a 10mm hex. head bolt. Use a 10mm socket on a long extension to reach it.
