Do not know code for radio?

I have a peugeot 406 coupe and the radio has a code required. Is there a way I by-pass this?
The 'code symbol required' came on when the battery went flat and I was never given the code when purchased from the previous owner, my brother, who has lost the info!!

I don't know how to remove the radio to find the serial number. It's built in...
The are two holes either side - would an alan key do this??
