How do I replace the lock on a UPVC door?

I have unscrewed the handles and rod but the lock is still in place. Do I need to unscrew the whole strip of metal along the door edge to get the lock out? Or is there an easier way?

Peter is correct in what he is saying, except that when you remove the posi screw from the metal strip (do NOT remove the smaller, usually torx head ones as these hold the lock-mech in) turn the key in the lock barrel to 5past/25to and withdraw the barrel. Then measure the offset - can be all different sizes from L/H edge to black/grey actuator then from R/H edge to same. A popular size is 45/45mm but can be many sizes depending on door(sash) thickness. Refitting is a reverse of this. Hope this helps. Kev@K.L.Plastics

the lock is held in place with a screw that goes into it from the mech. if u take this out and turn the key to the 2oclock postion the barrel will come out without taking the handles off. these barrels are all different lenghs so check b4 buying

Usually the locks are built into the strip so yes I would say you have to remove the whole thing.
