how do you take the lid off an AEG 1261 sensortronic?

I am trying to look inside my machine as it wont spin, looking to see if a belt has come off or something. However I cant get the lid off, I have undone the two screws at the back and pushed the lid forward but does not come off, dont want to force incase I break it, is ther some fancy way of it coming off

undo 2 screws at the back as you have already done.with the flat of your hand hit the front edge of the top BACKWARDS then lift off.needs a good firm hit don't be frightened.
its easy to tell if the belt has come off.if it has spin the drum and it will spin freely for a long while,if the belt is connected it will stop quickly.Lay machine on it's BACK ONLY and you will see the motor and the belt from underneath.Whilst your there remove the motor brushes and check that the carbon bit is 10mm or longer otherwise they are worn out and need replacing as this will stop the motor working
