dept change for MA-1350-1?

I programmed the dept into my register the other day but dept 1 which i named GIRLS is now adding the amt as a negative and if i press button 2 (BOYS) only - it opens the drawer and finishes the sale even after 1 item. How do i clear the dept and try to do it again and how do i stop it making the same changes as above please
