JVC DVD surround sound system turns itself off?

My JVC system keeps switching itself off when playing a DVD, it goes off completely into standby mode. If I just have the surround sound on it's fine and doesn't turn itself off. Any ideas please?

must be a timer set on it, to knock itself off. check menu for a timer, and clear it,
