How do I put a code into my 1991 Ford Escort Radio?

After the battery died I have the code but am unsure how to insert code into radio.

when the radio is switched on the 3 --- will flash, you press the buttons underneath ( 1 to 3) until the correct key code is there and then confirm by pressing the 4th key.
