hotpoint aquarius WD440G washer/dryer was not drying.no heat. replaced the ?

machine was not heating on drying selection. replaced thermostat but now it wont work at all. once its plugged in it switches on and seems to start a cycle in that it pumps out but within moments it has lights flashing and cannot be switched off. no control from any switch.tried it with old thermostat but remains the same.Martin

hi if the dryer element has faild, the washer won't work.you would think the washer and dryer would be on separate circuits,but they are not.the dryer element is in series with the washer circuit,try this =remove both terminals from the dryer element/coil and tape the two wires together using plenty of insulation tape.now try the washer,don't use the dryer.if all ok then replace the 1200watt dryer element part#C00080765 available at www.espares.co.uk at a price of £29.99
