the vertical shaft top plastic gear broke and i took it apart and replaced it. When i turn the inside knob on the hand wheel, it moves the horizontal shaft and the needle goes up and down like it should.When i try to sew, the motor and outside hand wheel turn but the horizontal shaft doesnt and the needle doesnt go up and down?????Any advice on how to fix this would greatly be appreciated. Maybe someone has a free copy of repair manual to send me?Thanks a big whole bunch.............SHIRLEY

To JOHAN....Thankyou for replying to my problem with the Singer Model 416. You gave easy instruction to fix the problem. I fought with it for a long time before u helped me out and i fixed it in less than a minute after u replied with the solution!!!!!!!!!!!! Its nice to know this site works and there are people out there that actually help others . Take out the small screw in the stop motion wheel, unscrew the stop motion wheel all the way off, put the 3 pronged washer in a different position, screw the stop motion wheel back on finger tight, put the screw back in the stop motion wheel and see if the stop motion wheel tightens as you turn it, if it does not put the washer in a different position and try again, have you retimed the machine since fitting the top gear ? if not type my email address as you say it not as you see it and I will attach instructions if you email me.

the triangular shape plate between inner and outer wheel is wrongly fitted the high area should be against inside or small wheel with other words towards outside.try this first. hope it help
