Panasonic VCR Model NV-FJ710B will not eject worn out cassette?

Is there a method of removing stuck cassette from VCR. Have been advised that it is "electronically locked up". Symptoms are: press eject button, machine tries to work mechanism, but after 5 seconds will shut down the VCR. Is there a method whereby this can be over-ridden?
