acer aspire 5732z?

when plugging in a usb data cable into the laptop there was a small spark and the usb ports stopped working. Any advice on repairing would be appreciated

After a spark like you mention, the problem is probably a fried IC, and that just can't be repaired, it needs to be replaced.
That usualy mean replacing the whole motherboard...

The destroyed IC is normaly welded in place by many tiny electric contacts and is not available on the market. I doubt that even repair shops can get them.
