How can i wire a brass lamp?

I've got a brass lamp i bought in Egypt. It's all wired apart from the fitting that you put the bulb into which I've had to change because it broke. Is is important that none of the wires are touching? how much wire should I leave once I've put it through the screw bit? any help would be fab.....

no bare wires touching!!!!......screw bit throws me off. small amt. of slack wire inside lamp should b sufficent...on inside of lamp where wire enters ,after u know how much wire will b needed , use electrical tape and wrap wire where it exits lamp ,on inside of lamp. use several wraps to prevent wire from being pulled from lamp, from the outside of lamp, after reassembled.hope it not too confusing dont know how to explain it any better.sorry
