The problem may depend on the news site and the format it use.
Is the video playing, but with a very bad frame rate.
Your internet connection may not be fast enough.
Try pausing the video and let it load, then resume it. Use a lower quality.
Your computer may not quite have the processing power needed.
Try playing the video at a lower quality. Try closing some background applications.
Any message about a missing player, plugin, codec,...?
If you have a message about a media player, you must go directly to the page for that player. If needed, use a Google search or your favorite search engine.
Try flash.com if you get a message about the flash player.
Use microsift.com if the message is about Silverlight.
Make sure that the video is not blocked by some addon, like FlashBlock or NoScript. Both have a white list that allow you to always run the scripts from trusted sites.
NEVER EVER use a link provided in any message box. Some fraudulent sites, that may masquarade as any legitimate site, may try to coon you into installing some maleware such as a virus or trojan.
