Samsung ER290 cash register?

I have a constant buzzing/alarm noise. Nothing can be programmed - have tried to do a reboot nothing happens apart from error message E1. Manual suggests you press C button - nothing happens.

E1 means you have made an incorrect entry (wrong button pressed). If you can not stop the noise by pressing clear (C) then you probably have memory corruption due to a flat or faulty battery. Has the machine been unplugged for a month or more?
