Can limescale build up around the rim ruin a toilet?

Had an armitage shanks toilet in house we rented. when we moved out the landlord says that the limescale is so bad that we have to buy him a new toilet. Is he trying it on to get our money?

No he's trying it on some do to get updated appliances at the expense of vacating tennants. Some make any excuse to keep any deposit paid ( used to be key money).

Seek advice from citizens advice bureau, in the meantime ignore his demands. I can't say what I really think... it would mean the boys in blue knocking on my door. Suffice to say past experience of a friend.

I've lived in a house for years and no sign of lime build up and toilet was cleaned once a week and it was in a high hard water area where you would expect some lime build up. Next time when renting or where you are now take digtal photo's of each room with a camera that is set for date and time and then do same the day before vacating so you have photographic evidence to produce if it goes to court. And this safe guard wherever you are.
