I don't appear to have a gas supply at the boiler as the flame won't light. can i bleed the valve

there is probably a really simple solution to the problem with your boiler not working
the problem i have is i dont know:
MAKE OF BOILER
MODEL OF BOILER
FAULT CODES/LIGHTS FLASHING?
which means you are going to have the privilege of paying someone an extortionate fee to do a simple reset & get the boiler working again
all because you cant be bothered to tell us the above VITAL information
