My Samsung Big Wash makes an awful noise when spinning and then stops. An appliance shop said that this
is the spider or basket, something like that and it will be
very expensive to fix. Although it is 6 years old I don't use it a lot. Does anyone know if his comments are true

Yes maybe or might be just needing new bearings. Nobody will know until it is dismantled and inspected. Did you go to an appliance shop that sells new appliances or a shop that actually repairs appliances. A sales shop will tell you anything to get you to buy a new one. Talk to an appliance repairer and ask them for a quote to repair.
