How can I fix my car radio/cd player which is in safe mode?

My battery went on my Vauxhall Corsa 1.21 SXi 2002 and since then my radio/cd player is in safe mode. As I bought this car second hand I do not have a code. Is there anyway to solve this problem as the garage want 30 pounds to remove radio.
