what does ptc door block mean ?

Our SMEG washing machine WMI12C7 has come up with a fault code E13-PTC door block. The machine is not quite two years old. What can I do about it, can I fix it myself with a spare part, is there one available and where would I get one?

Before reading Matt's suggestion (I have same problem on C6 machine) I bought and fitted a new door lock assembly - and it did not fix the problem!
I do not quite understand Matt's suggestion...

try disconnecting the power with the door closed, then reconnecting the power with the door open. (and vice versa). You might need to use the emergency door open. this fixed our machine's E13-PTC door block error.
