How do I fix my Hoover Electra 1000F washing machine?

My Hoover Electra 1000F is about 18 years old.
I fills with water no problem, it begins the wash cycle, but after a few barrel turns, it stops tumbling and sits there and clicks down the time until the next step in the cycle.
It then drains and refills with water, but will not tumble at all.
This continues until the last section of the wash, where it drains, fills with water, then spins dry.
I've opened the lid and it's all lots of pretty coloured wiring. It looks a bit old but isn't completely rusted or anything.
If anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them. Thanks everyone.

Awesome, thank you for such a fast reply.
Yes, there are loads of wires but they're all a different colour so I'll take it nice and slowly and take lots of photos first to see what goes where.

Hi it sounds as though your timer control box has gone. You will have to replace it, make sure you get the same type. When replacing make sure you replace the wires to the new one as they come off the old one.
