why wont my diesel ford transit work?

I have a 1990 ford transit parcell van which wont go. Its been parked for 4 weeks and it started but there was nothing when pushing the accelerator. Cam belt is good and i have checked the fuel injectors but there is no pressure. Is this a fuel pump problem or should i check filters and blockages in the fuel line first. what is the best way to do this.

You say it started but it seems it will just idle, is this correct? You also said that you checked the injectors but there was no pressure, do you mean no fuel when opening the high pressure nut?
both bosch and lucas fuel pumps have auto cold start fuel and do not require full throttle to start but if the engine does not run then you need to ensure system is completely full of fuel. Bosch systems depend on the injector pump drawing fuel from the tank via an internal suction pump. Lucas pumps are assisted with another " lift" pump. Determine what system you have first. Both fuel pumps are expensive to fix and the injectors are not cheap either. Another common problem is that if it does not start it is possible that one or more injector is "stuck open" allowing compression down the injector pipe and into the system, worth checking if vehicle does not start. If it does start and just idles smoothly then injectors are fine. A lot of things can be at fault here and unfortunately you need a process of elimination. good luck

Stupid question but the throttle linkage is functioning as it should and the actuation arm hasnt fallen off its ball and socket ?

My gut feeling is if there is a fuelling problem it would have likley not started at all if as you suggest it was running without a problem 4 weeks ago.

Check no little kid has plugged the exhaust with a potato or look to check if you have reversed it into a grass bank and plugged the exhaust with a clod of soil.

Worth a look !

good luck Steve.
