Old Avaya usb wireless adapter won't connect?

We have an old Avaya wireless adapter that will pick up our wireless network, but won't connect. When I try to renew the IP address, it says unable to renew and no connectivity. I've turned off the firewall and it still doesn't work. This used to work, but we haven't used it in a couple of years. You can see that it picks up a strong signal, but won't connect. Any ideas?

I agree. Your adapter could use WEP for security, but your signal (from a router?) is secured using WPA. Also, is your network secured using MAC address filtering? I use it to stop unauthorised access to my wifi. You need to provide more information to get better answers I'm afraid.
A quick google check indicates the card may be one used in a laptop? Is this the case?

It difficult to give a specific answer bcause you don't say what the adapter is nor any information about the network that you are trying to connect to.

However I'd start by looking at the encryption. If it is very old it may not support the encryption in use on the network.
