Singer 413 bobbin problems?

Cannot pull the thread up from the bobbin.

Thanks for the insight. I did find out the machine needs a new gear. The gear cost $9.99 at one shop and $14.99 at another place. The labor to replace the gear and retiming the machine is $180.

Now that you tell me I could possibly have a similar problem with another gear later on, I'm not sure I want to get the machine fixed.

The only drawback is that I will not be able to find another machine to fit in my cabinet.

How many gears are in the Singer Stylist 413 and if they were all replaced, would it be worth it to keep the machine or am I looking at more problems with other parts?

Thanks for all of your help.

Think simple first of all, make sure you have the needle in the correct way round, failing that you may need to retime the machine which is very common on all singer models.

Hi Christine,

99% sure your problem will be a gear that's stripped, very common fault on this class of machine.

Slide the plate that covers the spool open & take a look at the outer ring that surrounds the bobbin case...is it turning ? If not then it's a gear & that means money.I have carried out many repairs on these machines & always make my customers aware that the gear has stripped because that was the weakest point on the machine & if replaced the weak point is likely to move to another gear & you could have a similar problem again & thats more money again...just something worth considering I think.
