hi i just upgraded my laptop without realising it does not have a hdmi output like my last laptop which was simple hdmi lead connect to the tv. how do i connect the probook to the tv no hdmi checked net and confused tried a dvi lead but there is no connection for this on the probook either

That laptop is SUPOSED to have an HDMI (but I was unable to find any...), a VGA and a "display port". It also supposed to be able to send video through it's dock. It would gives you 4 options to use an external display.
The VGA connector is on the left side.
The display port is on the back.
The docking connector in on the bottom.

You have the option of using some external video "card" connected to an USB port.
