The machine works but is not cutting cleanly despite having recently been sharpened. Do I need to tighten the chain as there appears a bit of slack and if so how do I do this?

You really need to read the (F) manual. They are freely available from Stihl.

BTW, please take this kindly but do you think that someone as knowledgeable and inexperienced as you should be using such a potentially lethal device like a chainsaw.
