As it turned out it the machine was unable to balance due to an 'odd' load. New machines tend to be more sensitive when trying to evenly distribute the load prior to the machine going into the spin cycle.
When I tried it again with a different was load it worked perfectly.
Advice from the engineer ~ Always overload, rather than underload your machine! ~ Although he also said that it is not the sixe of the load but the weight distribution within the drum.
