Kenwood Chef KM010 Medium Speed Outlet Connector doesn't work?

My Kenwood Chef KM 010 has a medium speed outlet, which is positioned next to the high speed outlet on the top of the machine. The machine came with a "connector" which fits onto the outlet and onto which you fit attachments such as the food slicing/chopping tools. The problem is that the outlet itself works and the connector also works (in the case of the connector you can turn it using the handle of a spoon). But the two parts don't appear to connect and the outlet doesn't make the connector spin which means, in turn that the attachments won't work. Any ideas how I can repair this?
