Can I finalize dvd-r discs that were created on a separate unit?

: Hello, I have a Panasonic DMR ES40V vcr/dvd recorder that is no longer functioning. Unfortunately, many of the DVD discs I recorded were NOT finalized. Thus, they will not play on my new DVD player/recorder or on my computer.
Is anyone aware of a solution to this problem?

Normaly, it's not possible to finalise a burning operation on another device. In rare cases, you may get very lucky, but don't count on that.
It's always a good idea to finalise any recording, even if the DVD is only half filled. It don't cost much as they usualy cost only a few cents each if you buy a spindle of 50 or 100.

You need to find some file recovery programm and run it on your computer. There are many available, and some of those are free. Check on download.cnet.com/, www.filehippo.com/, www.lacuna.us/links/freeware.php, and some other sources.

It will allow you to recover the content and save it elsewhere.

Next, you need to burn the recovered content to a new DVD-R, taking care to do a complete burning operation.
