What tells a washing machine to stop filling with water?

How does a washing machine sense when there is enough water in the drum? What kind of sensor is it? Where would the sensor normall be located?

My machine is a zanussi FL828 if you know the specifics.

Thanks.

your air chamber is blocked with gunk or the hose is split

its called a pressure switch water enters a pressure chamber that pushes air up a tube that is connected to the pressure switch, when water level is ok the switch closes and tell the timer to move of the fill cycle ,this causes the motor to run and the heater to engage the pressure switch is normaly fitted to the side of the casing of the machine, either at the front or back of the machine, its a round unit with a tube fixed to it
