overheating?

overheated a few days ago had a look see a split in hose from oil cooler to water pump so repaired hose and stopped leaking filled it up drove van half a mile no heating still and temp gauge goes right up any ideas plz

you need to bleed the cooling system from the highest water point, best done when engine is warm so thermostat open ..

and as mentioned replace the pipe a temporary fix is as it states

Depending on how you stopped the leak, could be something blocking one of the water lines, split pipes cannot be repaired need replacing, remove and back flush the water system, replace the damaged pipe.
