If the problem started after you suppressed something, it may well be some component of your sound drivers.
My first step would be to reinstall the sound drivers. Get them from the maker's web site, normaly in the support section/ drivers or downloads.
Download the drivers file and double click the downloaded file to start the install process. You'll probably be asked to restart the computer to complete the process.
The advantage is that you now have the latest drivers available. Slightly longer.
You also can do a system restore that have a prety good chance of restoring the deleted file.
Easy, but you still have older drivers.
