sky+ (old, 40gb) box broken - power light red, long gaps with quick flash - any ideas? worked fine beforehand, maybe slowed down a little on remote control (pressed BBC1, and it seemed to take forever), but then worked fine for a few days. Now won't switch on, have tried holding power button in whilst powering up, to try to research software just in case, but nothing apart from the long gaps files intermittent single flash from the power button - only red flash. Is there anything I can do, try, before it goes in the dustbin and I have to find a new/second-hand one? Pace

If you call Sky, they'll either fix your box or give you a refurbished one of about £65.
