What is causing a black screen appearing while watching freeview programs?

Recently within last few weeks a black blank screen is appearing briefly when viewing freeview channels.this blank screen lasts for one or two seconds with loss of sound also but returns to normal again. The programme is again normal until the next blank screen appears.
My freeview box is a Hitachi 162 model. Approx 4-5 years old.
Any advice would be most welcome.

Thanks.

Probably a loss of signal.

The old analog TV could cope with a degraded signal - the picture just got fuzzy.

Digital signal processing requires a much stronger signal to show a picture - as the signal degrades the electronics soon reach a point where they can no longer cope - and they give up - and the screen goes blank.

Perhaps you should look to your aerial system - the cables - and connections.
