Our DVD recorder just died without warning. Completely dead, and changing fuse and trying alternative power socket hasn't helped. Obviously I'd like to repair it if possible, so ideas about likely faulty part and where to source replacements would be really appreciated?

Or if that's not going to work, any ideas for how to rescue recordings from the hard drive (we have family videos on there, and our daughter's birthday card being shown on Channel 5!).
