If you have an older TV set, it may not be possible to connect it to your computer without some kind of adaptor or converter.
I'm thinking of those having only antena, coaxial and, maybe, red-green-blue-audio RCA connectors.
If it's your case, you can't connect it directly to your computer.
You'll be severly limited in resolution with, at best, 640x480 in all 3 cases below.
To connect to the antena, you need to use a modulator to convert the image from the computer to a composite signal over a carrier.
If you have a coaxial connector, You need a signal multiplexer to convert the signal from the computer into a composite format.
If you have RCA connectors, you can make an adaptor cable from a VGA connector to RCA, plus a cable to connect your sound to the audio input of the TV.
