How can I repair a GBC 4250 Laminator?

I'm a teacher who is pretty handy. I've already fixed a few problems with this laminator before but now I'm stumped. The rollers are not moving like they should and there is a loud spring noise then it stops turning. I've cleaned the silicon rollers and removed all the melted laminate on the roller from a previous incident. When not on, the rollers move freely now. I've also filled in the gouges on the roller (Youtube video showed how). However, we are still getting the loud noise. What kind of oil would be best to use and where should I oil it (gears, chain, etc.)? Is there anyone who could scan a manual in and send it to me?

We don't have it in the budget to get a new one and no one can repair it because it is too old. Any help or advice would be welcomed!

hi I fix roll laminators as a indenpendent service company around pittsburgh pa area.

is the noise like a loud CLUNK? take the film off turn the red rollers by hand hear a noise like it?

if so the red roller bearings are bad. might be hardended grease, or roller failure.

its a nasty kinda job but can be done, take lts of photos before and as you take them out.

FIRST UNPLUG MACHINE!!! remove both side covers, unplug the 2 wires that provide heater power, then take everything apart to remove the rollers and bearings.

You can try cleaning the bearings I do a bunch at a time in gasoline or use the more environmentally friendly bearing cleaner....

repack with high temp disc brake grease from a auto parts store.

let the brearings soak then try moving them, any of the bearings fall out? if so replace the roller bearng assemblies, 4 at around 10 bucks each from bearing supplier, or 400 bucks for the assembly from GBC:(

You can use regular 10 weight oil on sprockets and drive chain...

if you have any questions feel free to give me a call telephone tech support is always free.

I have been thinking of putting up some FAQs on how to fix a variety of laminators.

if anyone is around pittsburgh I still provide FREE no cost no obligation estimates.

GBCs hourly rate of $317 for the first hour within 25 miles miles of pittsburgh is just too expensive for schools these days
