could you tell me the correct procedure for connecting the hot and cold water pipes for a philco electronic washing machine

If not marked hot and cold on machine, set the machine to rinse only connect cold pipe to one valve and switch on, if water fills then pipe is on correct valve, if not put cold pipe on other valve. cheers
