airlock in 1/2 of a zone?

sounds wierd but i have a 2 zone system {1st floor and basement} my 1st floor is split into {kitchen, LR, Bath, Mbath} and {3BR} THe BR zone seems empty of water? but the other half is working in the same zone? We did run out of oil last night and were out for 14 hours at 0 degrees. If a pipe had burst, would the rest of the system work normal? When i feel the pipes, the bedroom side gets cold after the split and sounds empty when i tap the pipe at both ends ( I did attempt to bleed it, maybe I did it wrong, but wouldnt both sides be empty? I did have an airlock issue 2/3 years ago in the same pipes. There are no valves to separate the split zone (design flaw).... Today and previously when we ran dry of oil the boiler leaks when it loses pressure, but it doesn't lose much water

heating split into 2 zones
presumably you have 2 room thermostats?
2x 2 port zone valves?
& a double channel timer for heating?

if 1st heating zone works ok then just turn on heating for 2nd zone [1st zone OFF]
does boiler fire up?

if YES
2nd zone radiators should heat up in theory
unless system is
airlocked [fill, bleed & vent]
severely blocked [needs flushing]

if NO
i would check correct operation of 2nd zone
room thermostat
timer
2 port zone valve

they are just simple switches
if power goes IN & switch is ON power should go OUT

the component that fails this simple test is the faulty item & should be either repaired or replaced

this does involve a certain level of electrical competence [above the level of wiring a 3 pin plug]

you are best placed to decide if you have the necessary skills/experience/competence

if in any doubt get a professional
