Recliner causing me to sit too far back?

My recliner has been slowly causing me to sit further and further back. This started last week and now I notice that when I recline, it is almost like I am in a bed instead of a reclining chair. This is not a rocker recliner, just a recliner. At the same time that this is happening, I notice that the footrest is coming out further and further each time when I get up. In other words, it doesn't close flat as it did. I wonder if this is the cause of my sitting too far back and if so, what can I do about it? I do not know the make of the chair because I did not buy it and the person did not tell me the make. I would give this to you if I could, but all I know is that the chair is purchased from Badcock Furniture (last year) and it is an oversized recliner and it is covered in vinyl. I had wanted cloth, but we take what we can get I guess. I cannot drive and so a friend purchased the chair for me. Please help if you can. Thank you very much.

Your chair sounds fairly new, so it shouldn't have excessive play in its pivot-points? If the footrest doesn't close flat against the chair as it used to, then it suggests that the entire metal action has moved. My first port of call would be to check the bolts or screws that mount the metal action to the wooden frame of the chair. It's likely that either the bolts/screws have failed or the wooden frame to which they mount has failed. It's also possible that a buckled, twisted action could cause this.
