on the MATSUI DTR1 - what is the use for the RS 232 socket?

I have a MATSUI DTR1 Freeview Box and apart from the usual time being shown too bright its OK.

However I see there is an RS 232 socket on the back and wonder what its for - Am I missing a use that i could benefit from?

They are usually for off-line software upgrade. However DTTs in the UK get their upgrades over the air. Second Matsui isn't a make, it's a DSG brand and therefore is a rebadged something else. The RS232 port may not even have been implemented on the Matsui version.
