From time to time, the sound icon fails to show in the notification area. It's just a very minor, intermitent but anoying, bug that may never manifest itself on most computers.
Make sure that your speakers are effectively connected to your computer and the wall socket or power strip. Make sure they are turned ON.
If they can have headphones connected in, disconnect any headphone that may be connected.
If the speakers are properly connected and ON:
From the controll pannel, open the Sounds applet.
From the first tab, sellect your sound device. Normaly, there is only one.
Click the "Properties" button.
From the "General" tab, make sure that the item sellected near the bottom read "Use...(activated)"
If it's set to deactivated, you get no sound. Change and click the Apply button.
In this case, the sound will immediately return.
If the sound did NOT return:
Sellect the "Levels" tab.
The sound level may be set to 0% or it may be mutted.
Set the "Volume controll" slider from 50 to 100%. If there is a red sign in the speaker button, it's muted. Click that button to unmute. The effect is instantaneous.
Click OK to save the changes and close.
If nothing works:
You, or somene else, may have accidently uninstalled the audio drivers. They may also have became corrupted by some accident.
Reinstall the audio drivers. You can download them from the maker's web site. It's always a FREE download.
Your sound card may be deffective.
If it's not an integrated model, try it on another computer.
Try another sound card in your computer.
Finaly, you can't send the audio to the recycle bin.
