how can i tranfer my vhs recordings on to my computers hdd?

i have a few old recordings of family etc. on video cassettes, and i'd like to put them onto my hard disk drive so i can edit and eventually burn them onto a dvd. could you please let me know how to do this and what i'll need, many thanks

You will need a video capture device of some kind. This allows you play the tapes into you compute and convert them to digital format. Cnet offers a nice little FREE online course about this. Take a look here:
