This happened to mine last week (02.12.10). To fix the problem:
1) Plug it in as normal for a couple of hours (the machine will look as though it's not working, ie, no lights, noise, etc) just leave it plugged in though for a couple of hours.
2) Next unplug it.
3) Then press and hold in the power button (the ON/OFF switch on the front of the machine) BEFORE YOU PLUG IT BACK IN.
I repeat; Keep ON/OFF button pressed in and then with this still pressed in then plug back into the mains.
4) After a matter of seconds the machine will power back to life in its original state/factory settings.
N.B: You may have to repeat this process each time the machine is powered down or unplugged - but it works and you'll be able to use, finalise, etc. any discs you have.
This method works.
Hope it helps you too.
